24 Hours in Newport

Lilies and Lambs 24 Hours in Newport

This past weekend we packed up the truck and went straight from MM’s first ever soccer practice to Newport for a quick mini vacation. We were there only 24 hours- but it was the perfect respite away as a family.

The town brought all the fall feelings- from the crisp sea air to the season’s first burnt leaves on the ground. We spent some time walking around- taking in all the historic buildings and cobble stoned charm and then stopped by the wharf for chowder, bloodies and a bit of shopping.

We stayed at the centrally located Hotel Viking- which was within walking distance to the wharf and had beautifully updated rooms, a stunning {and delicious} rooftop restaurant and bar and served complimentary s’mores by the courtyard fire. And MM sure got her money’s worth. The hotel is also completely pet friendly- so with a bit of planning I see us bringing Georgia along for our next family adventure.

Here are a few of my fall Newport musts:

  • Walk around Bowen’s Wharf and pop into our favorite shops, including Kiel James Patrick and Monelle

  • Grab a few cookies from The Cookie Jar- my fave are the Snickerdoodles.

  • Stop by the Newport Mansions shop on Bannister’s Wharf- we collect a different ornament on every family trip and find the best ones here.

  • Enjoy a cocktail and chowder at the Black Pearl. We prefer to sit outside on their waterside patio.

  • Watch the sunset at Top of Newport.

  • When staying at the Hotel Viking, whip up some s’mores as a family in their cozy courtyard before bedtime.

  • Make a pit stop at  the Farmer’s Daughter nursery in nearby South Kingstown. Check for seasonal activities and events before hand-  we were a little early for their fall setup, which is always a favorite,  but managed to snag a few of my favorite fairytale pumpkins.
