Seven Little Words

Lilies and Lambs

Yesterday this little girl told me seven sweet words that made my day.

No. My week.

Right when I needed it.

It’s not that I was having a bad day, per se; but I had been solo parenting on a Sunday, which is a very rare occurrence for me. And by the end of the eight or ninth waking hour, I started to run out of tricks. I started to feel a little bit defeated.

So I packed up the car, and we headed to the beach. Despite the forecasted rainstorm, I was hoping to sneak in a good hour or so of swimming and sunshine. And on the way, MM uttered from the backseat, “I have so much fun with you.”

She didn’t yell it out; or sound particularly enthusiastic. In fact, it sounded about as a matter of fact as a three year old can possibly sound. It was genuine; sincere. And I believed her.

And that was all it took. It revived my depleting mom tank. It gave me an instant pep talk. It sent me a jolt of confidence and a virtual pat on the back. In a matter of seconds. And it reminded me of just how important our words can be; how quickly they can shift energy.  Both positively and negatively.

And with one short sentence, my girl started our week off right.

And when we got to the beach and were told we couldn’t swim due to some nasty water conditions, we turned right around and headed to the park rather than back home. And had some fun there instead.

So happy Monday, kids.

Go out and tell someone something nice- even if it's to yourself.

You just might make someone's week.
