Simple Tweaks to Spruce Up Your Home
Every now and then I get the bug to update the feel of our home- to freshen up the space and bring new energy into our well-loved rooms.
Thankfully, for our wallets, this rarely requires a major overhaul like swapping out furniture. Instead, I’ve found there are a few simple, inexpensive tweaks that can easily update our space- and most of them are free- woohoo.
Create an Eye catching accent wall
This accent wall originated purely as the result of an overflow of hats. I truly needed a place to hang a few of them as my collection grew and grew. And now it’s one of my favorite walls in the house. We used simple nails and pretty much eyeballed where to put them. And I love how they earthy they look with the snake plant underneath.
2. paint
It is unbelievable how changing the color of a room can transform the space. We’ve lived in our house for six years, and have slowly changed the color of almost every room during that time- the colors builders use can be sort of “bleh.” Most recently we painted the nursery and master bedrooms a crisp white, and it was an instant, brightening facelift.
3. Add a live plant
Over the past few years I’ve developed quite the love affair with house plants. This fiddle fig tree has been around for a few years now and is one of my favorites- I’ve moved her around to different rooms and it always spruces up the space. I also love my snake plant in the Master and the fern we recently added to the nursery.
4. bring in some fresh cut flowers
Live plants are great, but if you don’t want the commitment or don’t have the space, nothing beats some fresh cut flowers. This bunch was snipped from our garden’s hydrangea plant; bringing them indoors instantly adds some freshness and color to the room.
5. Clean out Your Closet
While this tweak isn’t necessarily visible to anyone other than you, I always find that cleaning out my closets {and pantry} instantly makes my home feel lighter. Reorganizing, donating and decluttering a space, even one that’s not out in the open, freshens it up and brings new life to a room in a jiff.
