Friday Favorites

Happy Friday! Did anyone else’s four-day week feel exceptionally long? Ours started off with a heater on the fritz- on the coldest day of the year, no less. We spent half our MLK day escaping the cold in Mom and Dad’s room, followed by a playdate at Chelsea Piers. I had forgotten how great their drop-in programs are for the kids, especially during the winter.

Wednesday night I finally got a chance to pop back into Inner Light for a sauna session. I hadn’t been since before I found out I was pregnant with Lila, and it felt so good to sit, relax, and collect my thoughts for a few minutes. After my session I joined my friend Mary Heaven in her breath work circle. It was truly powerful, and I left feeling super grateful to have such a talented friend in her; and that I was able to drag my tired self there so late on a week night. She leads them once a month, and I highly recommend you check them out if you’re into that spiritual-guru type stuff.

This weekend I plan on heading back to SoulCycle for the first time since I brutally wounded my knee a few weeks ago. And then Phil and I are hoping to sneak out for a much-needed date night.

Hope everyone has a great weekend and stays warm and dry!

One.

The Bibs / Our little Bean has started eating cereal, which means things have gotten a whole lot messier around here. I found these silicon bibs a few months back and immediately fell in love with all their pretty prints. They’re waterproof, BPA and phthalate free and SUPER easy to clean.

two.

The Natural Nail Salon / After some very hurtful cyber-bullying from my mother, I bit the bullet and finally got a much-needed manicure. I kid, I kid. But she was right, I needed to get them done. So I ventured out to my favorite all-natural nail salon in nearby Darien. I can’t say enough about this pseudo-local spot. The space is beautiful, everyone is so so nice, and their products are heavenly. My only grievance is that they don’t have a location in Greenwich. But until then, I’ll commute for my manis.

three.

The Sacred Tree Oil / I couldn’t help but pick up a few goodies during my latest trip to Inner Light. I had forgotten how beautiful the space smells, and how instantly calming it is. So when I found a roll-on in their retail space with the same scent, I had to bring it home. This single note roll-on is filled with the oil of the sacred tree Palo Santo. It’s known to be both soothing and grounding; and I love the warm, citrus notes. I’ve been dabbing it on my wrist through the day, and I’ve found it to give me an instant sense of calm. You can grab one here, or at Inner Light.

four.

The Tradition / Every day since the first day of school this year, I’ve included a little note with a joke in Maddie’s lunch box. I wasn’t sure when Lila would come, but ultimately she arrived on that same first day of school; and these little notes have been a constant message to Maddie that I’m always thinking about her. I haven’t missed a day; even when things have gotten a little crazy. Most of the time these notes include kid-friendly jokes from google. I tend to vary the theme based on the season or holiday; or whatever her current interest is that week. Right now, however, she’s got Big Foot on the brain. So I bought this book to include a few different yeti-themed jokes over the next few weeks.

five.

The Postpartum Hair Loss Remedies / OK, folks. The results are in. Last week I asked you all to share your tips on what to do when postpartum hair loss hits, and for the most part we all agree: The best remedy is simply time. My stance on this phase of life has alway been to embrace it. In the scheme of things, it’s a minor annoyance; and something that is well worth the reward. That said, a few of you wanted me to research some remedies. Other than the embrace and wait method, a few other suggestions were to continue with prenatal vitamins and to explore procedures at med-spas. I picked up some Vital Protein Collagen Peptides to add to my morning coffee. I’m not sure if it will do anything for this hair loss, but so many of you swear by it as part of your morning routine {again, from IG polls}, and I’ll be reporting back in a few weeks with updates.
