Halloween Tales

This past weekend we took the kids to the pumpkin patch, then headed home to watch some Halloween movies together- as is tradition in our house. I’ve already watched Hocus Pocus and It’s the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown roughly 45 times this season- so I turned on one of my new personal favorites, Goosebumps.

About half way through the movie one of our friends pointed out- half jokingly- that it was probably too scary for the littles; and that in actuality it probably wasn’t an age appropriate pick for anyone in the room.

And, hilarious as it was, he was right. Not one of us was a twelve-year old boy.

But if I’m being really honest, I put it on for myself more than for anyone else. My point being- when it comes to spooky stories, I’m a big fan. As soon as the clock strikes mid-September I’ll watch anything related to black cats, pumpkins and witches- even when I’m home alone. And Maddie’s bedroom library is instantly decorated in its Halloween best- glitter flowers are replaced by garlands clad with bats, and Madeline and Fancy Nancy are swapped for Creepy Carrots and Five Little Pumpkins.

A few years back I shared 13 favorite Halloween movies {here} . And they’re still some of the best around. But I’ve collected a few new favorites recently- for both books and the screen.
